The blanket functions as a space, a metaphor, and as a vehicle for dialogue and learning. It is a space occupied by embroidered characters, based on concepts learned from Andean cosmovision, that dance around the fabric, narrating their story. It also becomes a space occupied by community during the sewing workshop that takes place as part of the piece. Because of the reemay’s purpose as a cover for plants, the blanket, or manto, is a metaphor for both the human desire for protection, security, care, and salvation as well as the possibility of suffocation, imposition, and violence. As a whole, TEB invites the viewer to consider how we can take better care of the land and of each other while emphasizing a decolonial lens.
